Breeding in an Open Flight Arraignment

When I originally set-up my gouldians I did so in an open flight aviary. I knew many people who kept their birds this way. The biggest problem with open flight aviary breeding is the loss of control.

You rarely know who is breeding with whom...which leaves a great opportunity for inbreeding and clutches that do not make it for one reason or another.

After years of working with gouldians I have come to the decision that although the birds are very happy in this setting it is not the most productive nor favorable to propagating the species.
